5 Ways to Declutter Your Digital Photos

5 Ways to Declutter Your Digital Photos
tip 5 tips to declutter your digital photos

Read on for some quick wins that you can do today to help kick start your photo organizing journey.

  1. Make sure your cell phone pictures are backed up in one or two separate locations. I pay for cloud service on google and amazon, but you can do your own research to determine which one fits your needs best. It’s also a good idea to invest in an external hard drive. I keep one large one (7TB storage size) which houses almost every image and a smaller (1TB size) which is more portable one for each year.

2. Delete the duplicates! Here are the tutorials to quickly find and delete your duplicate photos on your iphone or android phone. While your at it, find the screenshots you have saved and quickly delete those as well! Boom, its getting tidier already!

3. My favorite daily task- instead of opening up social media to scroll and zone out (which I am guilty of too!). Scroll your own camera roll.

Make it a game!

Open your photos app and enter todays date from 1 year ago, 2 years ago etc. You get to re-live that day a little and possibly clean up photos that really have no business clogging up your storage. Imagine how much better it will look in a year if you did this once a day!

4. Set a reminder to go through your images/videos at the end of the (day, week or month) to delete and/or sort your favorites into a folder. This way you can easily reference back to the folder when you are ready to tackle a bigger project like a gallery wall or special album.

5. Take the Marie Kondo approach when deleting images.

If it sparks joy or any other emotion really- keep it.

If you cant imagine your life without it – keep it.

Do you think your child will care about this one in 30 years? – yes? – keep.

You get the point. Don’t spend a TON of time in a state of indecision, keep the focus on what you are gaining by clearing out the clutter. These will be the gems that stand out and will be appreciated the most!

These babies of ours, they just don’t keep. There is never a bad time to get started and even catch up on years past. Do you feel overwhelmed by what to do with all your images or ready for the next step once you have your favorites picked out? You’re in luck! I have a guide to help you figure out a strategy to get you on track to preserving and ENJOYING your favorite family memories!

*One caveat to the Marie Kondo approach! If you use google photos (or another cloud service) and enjoy the random collages & flashbacks it puts together, by all means keep more of your photos BUT aim to bucket some of your favorites into folders with a plan on what to do with them.

This graduation party from June was such a hit! The parents thought of every little detail — from the VW photo booth van and tiki bar theme to an incredible hibachi dinner. I loved capturing all the thoughtful touches along with the big moments of celebrating their graduate.
Such a fun way to celebrate and send him off in style!
